I live in Rochester, MI. My local community is a quiet, humble neighborhood. My street is paved – although, many streets around me are still gravel. The homes in my subdivision are fairly small, they’re probably between 1,200 to 2,800 square feet. I have a wide variety of people in my neighborhood. The neighbors across the street are a middle aged couple, I think the guy owns a plumbing company. My next door neighbor is a 30-40 year old single guy, who travels the globe. I’m not sure what his position is but I know he works for Chrysler.
As mentioned above, I live in Rochester, MI. My larger community is filled with much entertainment, from shopping, to eating, parks, trails, and movies. My larger community also offers many activities such as, movies outdoors in warmer weather, the Christmas Light Show, and the Fire and Ice Show. After looking at the Census website and the information I’ve included, I would describe this community using the Functional Theory. I view this community as using a system of education, family, and careers together to promote stability. Education seems to be very important in this community. Over 50% of adults between the ages of 35-44 have a Bachelor’s degree or higher. I would say that this community is middle class based on the median income of $76,133. Most families in this area are married with 56.6% being married. These people are pushing the importance of education on a micro level to the kids in this community, you can see these patterns on the Census website with 92.3% of children enrolled in High School. This community seems to intentionally use the Manifest Functions. Most of them tend to use the same pattern of operation in this community, such as, education first, a comfortable career, family, and then teaching the children the same
