Leadership is very important to many organizations, especially the military. According to Bass and Avolio, leadership is considered even more important in the military than in any other organization in the United States (Bass 5). As leaders in the U.S. Air Force, we are given the opportunity to lead and handle challenges. As the new Wing Safety Officer I have been given the task of restoring and improving moral. By applying several principles from the Full Ranger Leadership Model (FRLM) I will be able to provide a solution and a course of action to rebuild the morale and teamwork in the wing safety office.

After creating a functional team, my next plan of action would be to incorporate the Individual Consideration (IC) model by having individual meetings with each of my subordinates. Individual Consideration is a transformational leadership style that is aimed specifically at subordinate development and promotes self-development (Bass 11). The scenario suggests that MSgt Stugess has a few concerns with Lt Sherry from the hospital. As senior staff in the office, the tension between these two is affecting the overall morale of the office. They both have different views of each other and come from different professional backgrounds. In this case, I would use the IC model to establish a two-way communication with Lt Sherry and MSgt Stugess. Applying this model will help me provide mentorship and personalize their individual concerns. During the time I spend with Lt Sherry, we will come up with a plan to address her child care arrangements and provide her information and needed support to ensure there are no gaps in her work progress and or interruptions in the …show more content…
Intellectual stimulation is a transformational leadership style that requires all team members to provided new insights and solutions to problems and tasks (Bass 19). By applying the IS model, it will bring everyone together as a team, including Mr. Jennings, to discuss the current safety mishap tempo as well as stimulate their ability to identify and solve the safety problems. This will begin restoring trust in the team and showing that everyone plays an important part in the mission. According to Richard L. Daft, "people admire leaders that challenge them to think and learn, and encourage openness to new, inspiring ideas and alternatives" (15). Contingent Reward (CR) is a transactional leadership style where a reward is given for excellent work or accomplishing a task/mission. According to Bass (2), CR can be a great way to inspire teamwork and motivate others to achieve higher levels of performance. My plan is to offer incentives for the office, such as a day-off, for improving the safety incidents over a certain period of time. The combination of these two leadership styles will be able to incorporate everyone as a

At some point, every leader probably thinks about how they want to lead and what is important to him or her as a leader. During the CSC coursework, I wrote my command philosophy, which gave me an opportunity to reflect on past leaders I had encountered, and project how I wanted to lead in the future. The command philosophy was a statement, written to the members of the unit, about what I valued as a leader. As a foundation for how to approach this philosophy, the CSC coursework described USMC General Lejeune’s teacher/scholar leadership approach (USMC CDET, 2013a). This approach to leadership rests on a foundation of ethics, directly supporting an ethos of core values, mode of conduct, leadership principles, and leadership traits (USMC…

There are four main leadership theories that need to be obtained to run the criminal justice system smoothly.
