Full House Powerpuff Girls Analysis

Full House, The Powerpuff Girls, and Star Wars. People may find these to be common household names from the nineties and early two thousands. However, in 2016, almost twenty years since these shows and movies were relevant, billboards and commercials announce the return or reimagining of these intellectual properties. Some look forward to experiencing their earlier memories again. But for others, the revival of these defunct shows is evidence of dwindling creativity or companies looking to make a quick buck. Through the definition of nostalgia, the current trend of reboots can be analyzed and split into two categories: enduring nostalgia, and pandering nostalgia.
To properly classify a medium as enduring nostalgia or pandering nostalgia, the

The main purpose for the eighties’ Full House was to impart a sense of morality to young audiences. The producers and writers achieved this through the use of a typical comedy. That is, a format where an everyday situation becomes problematic through the addition of conflict and at the end the conflict is resolved and everything goes back to normal. The show was popular because of the close-knit relationship of the family on-screen. Another part of the charm were the characters. Uncle Joey and Jesse make for great comedic relief and at the same time moral compasses. Fuller House attempts to capture in essence the nostalgia that witnessing the girls all grown up might create. The feeling of watching familiar characters deal with the conflicts that might arise in today’s society. From DJ’s dating conundrum, to Stephanie’s maturing out of her “party girl” phase the program tries to relate to millennial viewers. However, the program does not account for modern cynicism prevalent among millennials. None of the conflict resolution in the show is relatable. DJ’s reassurance that her children are also Stephanie’s does not provide closure to Stephanie’s inability to conceive. As a whole the show seems to try to teach old morals to a generation that might not consider that ethics code relevant anymore. The program seems to pander to a very niche portion of its’ potential audience. Those who wanted to see the …show more content…
Through the use of a unique art style and mold-breaking characters, The Powerpuff Girls became an incredibly definitive show for many millennial children. For starters, the main characters were superpowered kindergarten schoolgirls. The bad guys of the show included a hyper intelligent monkey and an androgynous devil. This show broke many barriers as far as stereotypes and expectations from older generation, making it extremely appealing to children. Now in April of 2016 a reboot is due in Cartoon Network. Although the characters and premise of the show will remain the same, minor changes have been announced. The girls will be older yet still children, their landline emergency phone will be replaced by smartphones, and, perhaps most controversial of all, their voice actresses have been recast. This makes for an interesting situation with regards as to the classification of the use of nostalgia. The intellectual property seems to be aided, not reliant, on the nostalgia that the characters might bring. However, it seems like the show will innovate upon its’ previous iteration and bring the setting to a more relatable scenario. Overall the classification of the nostalgia this show is relying on is heavily dependent on the final execution of the

Imagine a world where diversity was not relevant. Where white and black people were treated the same. However, that was not the case, the 50s displayed white people much more than black people on TV, but as change within the American Culture occurred from the 50s to the 80s, black people were seen more on TV. Two sitcom comedies; The Cosby Show(1980s), and Father Knows Best (FKB, 1950s) can be compared by connecting each of them to the era in which they aired. As the 1950s sitcom Father Knows Best illustrates a very scripted family lifestyle, the 1980s sitcom The Cosby Show portrays a realistic family, which both demonstrate the culture though their time periods.…

In the 80s and 90s came shows like Married With Children and Roseanne, which show couples with much more real-world marital issues in a much less flattering, yet more realistic, such as (divorce, financial hardships, teen rebellion, death, abuse, etc.). The families in these shows are seen to be flawed, like our own families. These families are also not shown to always be perfect when working through these flaws. Therefore we can relate to them much better. The Brady Bunch leaves us, the typical viewer without the modern-day ability to relate to the Brady family, but could still be seen to provide a get away from the trials and tribulations of a real family…

Each sociological perspective explains how society changes individuals, and vice versa through society, social forces, and human behavior. By researching multiple television shows that are currently on air, it is clear that they showcase a multitude of sociological theories such as symbolic interactionism, conflict theory, and even structural functionalism within each episode. The television shows that demonstrate these perspectives are: Fuller House with symbolic interactionism, Scream: The TV Series with conflict theory, and finally, The Mindy Project with structural functionalism. These three television shows thoroughly showcase the sociological perspectives through each family fight, sibling rivalries, societal norms, and the bonds between…

This makes the family aspect of the series special because most family sitcoms have couples with multiple kids of varying ages and this defies that status quo. Full House is interesting because there are multiple families living under one roof as well as non-family members. The Tanner Family features a single parent family that lives alongside a nuclear family, the Katsopolis family. Family-friends, who also live in the house influence the lives of both the kids and parents in the house. This is unique to TV because a lot of times shows feature different…

What “Full House” did very well with was delivering us with more than one example of diverse men, all masculine in their own way, and altogether embracing customarily “feminine” positions. The father (Danny), brother-in-law(Jesse) and best friend(joey) Each had their own distinctive traits and goals that they wanted to accomplish. These goals that they came in with were never put to the side, but instead, uninterrupted alongside with household obligations. Regardless of their differences, these men are similarly wonderful as caregivers to the little girls.…
