Full House: The New Normal Full House started off as just another 80s family sitcom but then grew into a show that changed the view on American culture and it’s families. This show changed American TV in the US itself by altering the stereotypical parenting household. By having three men take care of three young girls the show broke the mold of the typical “mom and pop” parenting household. Also, with the different lifestyle this family lived, it could have also had an affect on the families watching the show by connecting with their own different lives. With this connection between the families and viewers there was bound to be parasocial relationship formed. Most television shows in the early 80s and 90s had the typical family households with the mom and dad asked caretakers such as the Cosby show and Roseanne. In Full House the authority figures were Danny Tanner, Joey Gladstone, and Jesse Katsopolis. Although Danny Tanner was the girls biological father Joey and Jesse were his best friend and brother-in-law. The reason for their not being a mother figure is because Danny’s wife was killed in a car crash so Danny asked his best friend, Joey, and his late …show more content…
Instead of always having something bigger extravagant in their lives, the family normally would have to do with the little things like jobs, school, or relationships. For example in (season one episode three) when Stephanie is getting ready for her first day of kindergarten she is afraid that she won’t fit in or even be able to handle learning the Pledge of Allegiance. This episode Danny, Joey, and Jesse had to figure out how to help her become more confident going to her first day kindergarten. Another example would be when Stephanie, Joey, and Jesse all have the chicken pox (season 1 episode 15) and Danny has to work so there is no one to take care of the

Compare and Contrast Sitcom- Essay Throughout the decades we as viewers witnessed various family TV sitcoms evolve as generation’s change, with many managing to maintain several of the same family core values. I strongly feel that The Brady Bunch, which debuted in the 1960’s and Full House debuting in the 1990’s best illustrate a significant gap between two generations of families that share similarities amongst family values despite their difference in family structure and roles. Both sitcoms are based in a family home setting depicting common life obstacles, struggles as well as plenty of humor that the whole family can enjoy.…

Imagine a world where diversity was not relevant. Where white and black people were treated the same. However, that was not the case, the 50s displayed white people much more than black people on TV, but as change within the American Culture occurred from the 50s to the 80s, black people were seen more on TV. Two sitcom comedies; The Cosby Show(1980s), and Father Knows Best (FKB, 1950s) can be compared by connecting each of them to the era in which they aired. As the 1950s sitcom Father Knows Best illustrates a very scripted family lifestyle, the 1980s sitcom The Cosby Show portrays a realistic family, which both demonstrate the culture though their time periods.…

In the book, The Way We Never Were: American Families and the Nostalgia Trap by Stephanie Coontz, the author deconstructs various types of stereotypes and myths embodied by television shows that romanticize family life and gender roles. Coontz (1992) states that these idealizations promote the “traditional family” myth which she describes as “an ahistorical amalgam of structures, values, and behaviors that never coexisted in time and place” (p.9). The notions derived from this myth are a compound of characteristics that resemble mid-nineteenth century and early 20th century paradigms concerning family life (Coontz, 1992, p.9). Coontz (1992) describes both components in detail in Chapter 1 describing the first as a mother-child oriented family…

The concept of "The Brady Bunch" started back in 1966 when Sherwood Schwartz (the creator and producer of the show) heard that somewhere between 20-30% of all families had at least one child from a previous marriage. The first season of The Brady Bunch focused on the newly blended family and the conflicts that arose from the merger. The family eventually learned to get a long as they knew more about each other. No matter what the cause of their personality change is, each character in House of Leaves becomes different due to experiences in their life. An Analysis of The Family and The Episode of Duck Dynasty Introduction A family, as defined in many ways, is the cell of the whole society. Analyzing a family is complicated and many theories are required. Being defined over the life course, “A family is an intergenerational social group organized and governed by social norms regarding descent, and affinity, reproduction and the nurturant socialization of the young” (White, 1991, p. 37). Researching a family is a very long process and should pay attention to the changing of time.…
