Fulfilling my purpose: The Next Chapter of My Life
The University of Michigan is one of the top ranking public universities. The campus is very large and has many valuable resources designed for its students to be successful. For example the Shapiro Library (UGLI) and the Hatcher Library have many different types of study spaces. On the first floor of the Shapiro Library there is a large study area which is not too quiet or too loud and on the second there are smaller study rooms ideal for small groups or individuals. On the second floor of the Hatcher Library there is the Reference Reading Room which is well lit and very quiet, making it ideal for reading or studying. Another place that I have found useful is the Fishbowl which is located in Angel Hall. The Fishbowl has many computers, printers, and small work spaces available for students to take advantage of. These places on campus help promote a productive learning

Similar to Neuroscience, Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience (BCN) is an interdisciplinary major that incorporates concepts of Psychology and Neuroscience. It broadly focuses on these disciplines and why individuals behave and respond the way they do. In addition to majoring in Neuroscience or Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience (BCN), I am also interested in double-majoring or minoring in Spanish. Although I speak Spanish fluently, I would like to use this as an opportunity to practice and expand my vocabulary. Also, I want my Spanish skills, speaking and writing, to be at the same skill level of my English skills because up until now I have mainly focused on improving my English. Going into the medical field, I think it is essential for employees to be bilingual because they can provide their services to patients more

Oftentimes, people who speak more than one language are seen as intelligent and resourceful. They may receive comments such as, “Wow, that’s so difficult! I could never do that!” But to bilingual individuals, the ability to speak two languages is barely scraping the bottom of the barrel. Two bilingual authors by the names of Martín Espada and Richard Rodriguez have plenty to say about their definition of what bilingualism truly is.…

Being able to respond to something so little made the spanish doctor and myself feel happy. I realized bilingualism, isn’t just about speaking multiple languages, it’s retaining, your culture and identity, while trying to accept learning a new language. Martin Espada and Richard Rodriguez have their own views of bilingualism. Espada’s definition of Bilingualism is speaking multiple languages, but to make sure to focus on your original culture and identity. Rodriguez's definition of bilingualism is that you should try your hardest to learn a new language…

I’m pursuing a Spanish and biology double major with a psychology minor - I propose that my directed study be a combination of all of these things: I would like to learn how to communicate effectively and respectfully in the medical field to spanish speaking individuals. I plan on studying how Spanish speaking individuals and families approach medicine, how living in the United States makes receiving medical care difficult, and ways to make Spanish speaking individuals and families more comfortable in a mostly english speaking country while pursuing medical advice. I will study medical Spanish with Dr. Mark McGraw. I plan on first studying the problems that are encountered when Spanish speaking individuals are in a medical field, how spanish…

Thanks to my parents migrating from Mexico to the U.S., I had the opportunity to be raised in South Texas or, as locals call it, “el valley”. Growing up in el valley is different than growing up anywhere else in America. The community is made up of primarily Hispanic Spanish-speakers who live in lower-class neighborhoods. At an early age most children from the area, including myself, are taught a skill that is valuable in today’s society, which is being bilingual. I recall going to school where I spoke English and then going home where I spoke Spanish.…

On Dalton State campus, many students arrive hoping to receive an education to further their careers. College campuses offer a system of buildings to provide services that helps each student find a place of stability. The highly populated and generic Pope Student Center is an ideal spot for any student who is hungry, a social seeker, and needing a rest from the heavy college work. Yet, my preferred region of the Dalton State campus is the outside of the Pope Student Center. The captivating scenery releases a peacefulness which allows me to do work; the versatile textures of concrete to wood, and the warm and wintry weather brushing my skin by the oncoming of autumn allow me to calm the anxiety and pressure of being in a college setting.…

For almost two decades I have known that I wanted to be a doctor. However, seven years ago I I decided that I wanted to be fluent in Spanish so that I may treat those whose first language is Spanish. While volunteering at the New York Hospital of Queens, I got to experience first hand a Hispanic family who spent approximately 12 hours in a waiting room due to the language barrier. I have seen patients before waiting for a long period of time, but this was the longest. In that moment, I felt sympathy for that family.…

Lonestar Field trip The campus resources that I chose are the library, cafe, gym, and the office of academic success. I chose these resources because the library contains information I might need in the future and has entertaining aspects such as a 3D printer, a virtual reality headset, and Wacom tablets used for drawing on the computer which I could use for various art projects. The cafe is a place where I can get something to eat after school, it is very handy when I am on the campus and want a bite to eat. The gym has a lot of after school activities which I enjoy because there are things like Zumba or fitness classes which I would normally have to pay for a gym membership outside of school for.…

The video was quite long and outdated; however, it is very helpful to me personally. I really like his first lesson, which is the Definiteness of Purpose. I think it is very important to have the “Definiteness of Purpose” as the starting point, because without a purpose, people will be lost. “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve regardless of how many times you may have failed in the past” to me, this quote by Napoleon Hill is priceless. It made me feel more confidence and motivation to go through my journey of life.…

Oh Council of Music, the time has come to address a grave and dreadful issue regarding the vile and insolent outsiders who have been invading our own practice rooms. We have a policy that you have set in place which truthfully states: “practice rooms are reserved for students only.” We also have in-room rules that declare: “no eating, close the door, don’t touch the AC, and turn off the light when done.” However, these infiltrators rebelliously break most to all of those laws, and they shouldn’t even be entering because they’re not even students-even if they may insist that they are!!!…

It’s tough to remember the first time that I heard the age-old question about the purpose of life because I’ve heard it so much. However, the first time that I really took time to think about this question was a few weeks ago. I recall waking up in the morning and asking myself a simple question, “What am I looking forward to today?” To my surprise, I couldn’t answer the question and I realized that I was currently living an extremely boring and meaningless life. I then stumbled upon another question, “What is the purpose of my life and what am I going to do in the future?”…
