An Analysis Of Christopher Wallace's Juicy

I had a great time in MUS 1014 listening to the variety of songs that Peter Mercer-Taylor provided. If there was one song that I wish he could have discussed, it would be “Juicy” by Christopher Wallace a.k.a. Biggie Smalls. The reason was that during the rap unit, Taylor offered a variety of rap songs to us during the 1980s and the new millennium. However, I only recalled him playing only one rap song from the 1990s: Snoop Doggy Dog’s “Serial Killa”. I think it would have been nice if he offered another song during the same decade. To me, “Juicy” would have been a great candidate. Released in 1994 from the album Ready to Die, “Juicy” became a breakthrough hit for Biggie. For production, he sampled the song “Juicy Fruit”, made by Mtume to provide …show more content…
Throughout the verse, he is reminiscing the times that he looked up to other rap artists and DJs like Salt-n-Peppa, Heavy D and Marley Mal. He also talks about his current situation; to him, he is becoming phenomenal. He’s going from someone who “eats sardines for dinner” to having his own crib and fortunes. On every verse, Biggie ends it by saying: “And if you don’t know, now you know, nigga”. This line is perhaps the most recognizable of all. I interpret that Biggie wants his listeners to actually know who he really is: a 22-year-old aspiring rapper looking to be the next big thing. If they don’t know the struggles he’s been through, then they do …show more content…
It made a huge impact in the rap industry, especially in the east coast. The revival of East Coast Hip-Hop clashed with the popularity of Gangsta Rap and other forms of rap found in the west coast, creating a rivalry. Unfortunately, the rivalry proved to be deadly as Biggie was murdered three years after the release of “Juicy” at the age of 24. The legacy of the song still lives on, and many current rappers cite Biggie Smalls as one of their inspirations. For that reason, I believe that the song could have been a great example for Peter Mercer-Taylor to include during our

Beady eyes, long bodies, and pinchy fingers are some attributes that make humans unapproachable. Unfortunately, they have also managed to selfishly devour a majority of the living species they come in contact with, including lobsters. David Foster Wallace wrote an essay titled, “Consider the Lobster,” to inform the public about the issues that has been happening between the lobster consumers, lobster defenders, and their feelings towards boiling alive the aquatic crustacean. Wallace is obviously against boiling lobsters alive for consumption, but in his essay he has managed to make it seem as if he is on both sides of the argument. The reason Wallace never seemed to pick a side in his essay is because he wants to give the reader a chance to…

While William enjoys many of the various stories his father tells him as a young child, William’s enjoyment of them as an adult gradually morphs into intense embarrassment and annoyance to eventually resentment. This is evident from William’s reaction in the very beginning of Burton’s film to hearing his father utilize his stories in public speaking (Burton 0:5:35). It is only with the inevitable death of his father that finally forces William to make some effort to repair the damage his relationship with his father has suffered with throughout the three years that they have gone not speaking to one another. While both Burton and Wallace’s William attempt to reconcile with his dying father, the motives to achieve this is different from Daniel Wallace to Tim Burton. In the novel, Wallace uses William’s attempt to reconcile and understand his father’s motives for story-telling is what brings the two men to reestablish the desired relationship that they both wish to have with each other.…

Although fans of hip hop was enjoying an era in which Jay-Z was bound to create a never-ending legacy, they were yearning for more superstars. Eminem was up first, releasing his debut single under the Aftermath label in January, 1999. It was entitled My Name Is and it developed into a hit, reaching the top 40 of Billboard 's weekly Hot 100( the music industry standard record chart in the United States for singles) grabbing the attention of many due to it 's violent, erratic lyrics under his alter-ego known as Slim Shady. The song would turn out to be emblematic of a large portion of Eminem 's career, which was a series of egregious, vulgar statements that had never been accepted by music consumers the way they did when it came to Eminem. They not only accepted it, but eventually yearned for it, making Eminem one of the most respected hip hop artists of any era.…

David Wallace’s article of “Consider the Lobster” is a very unique article and went above and beyond to grab the reader’s attention on a sensitive subject; the senses and feels of an animal that later becomes our food. The idea of putting yourself in the bodies of an animal that us humans later consume, is both a disturbing and difficult task. Wallace, an American novelist and professor, was assigned to cover the “Maine Lobster Festival” held in late July in the state’s mid-coast region, or western side of Penobscot Bay. The Maine lobster festival of for short “MLF” draws huge crowds from all over, around 80,000 people attend every year. Wallace who was an “assigned correspondent” at the MLF, wrote about his experience and what he saw.…

While at first glance, David Foster Wallace’s “Shipping Out” describes the miserable tale of the author on a cruise ship for a week, however, it is actually a commentary on the underlying insidious nature of cruise ships and vacation services. During this period, the author is treated to a multitude of luxuries, including thorough cleaning services, high-class dining, and constant recreational activities provided by the cruise. However, the author grows increasingly unsettled as he realizes the extent the ship’s crew is willing to do in order to gain the validation and the satisfaction of their customers. Jennifer Volland’s essay “Stay: The Archetypical Space of the Hotel” is another work which describes the nature of similar vacation spots,…
