x2 = (28 - 29)2/29 + (30 - 29)2/29 = 1/29 +1/29 = 2/29 = 0.0690
0.069 < 3.834, assuming p = 0.05
The null hypothesis should be accepted.
Analysis: We are unable to reach a conclusion regarding the effect of light on the fruit flies’ behavior. In the controls experiment, the average number of flies on half A is 26 and 32 on half B. The numbers remained about the same in the experimental group. Overall, the data didn’t support our hypothesis.
Discussion: There are several reasons as to why we didn’t get reliable data. One reason is that we underestimated the effect of age on the the experimental data. Older flies are attracted to light while younger ones may not respond
