David Frost, a English television talk show host, manages a busy lifestyle with hit shows such as This was the week that was (TW3) and the Frost report in both England and Australia. After not being able to ‘make it big’ in America during the late 60’s, Frost seeks anyway that could take his career to the next level. Addicted to fame and fortune, Frost is dumbfounded by the millions worldwide who tuned into Richard Nixon’s resignation speech. After requesting an interview, finally Nixon accepts – under the condition that Watergate can only take up 1/4 of the interviews. With Nixon requesting $600,000 upfront and a share of the profits, Frost finds himself in debt after advertisers drop out one by one. The series is filmed in four parts, the first three being Nixon and the world, war at home and abroad and Nixon, the man. The final episode concludes with Watergate, the crux of the interviews. After the first three are less than impressive, Frosts team are worried for Watergate and the success of the interviews. The movie not only leaves views who are unfamiliar with the Nixon interviews, that the interviews came out as one episode but also that Nixon and Frost only met on four occasions to film the interviews. Another key point that the film gets wrong is Nixon’s admittance to his role in the crimes and the facial expressions portrayed. I would classify Frost/Nixon as a movie more suitable for entertainment purposes when considering the previous points as the movie only briefly touches on some of the key points of the interviews and rather focuses in on David Frost’s life in attempt to make the film more entertaining. Even though the film is more suited to entertainment purposes, I still believe that this would be a good film for a student studying the Watergate topic to watch as an introduction to the topic of Watergate because it briefly touches on some of the topics and gives a good introduction to the life of Nixon. Frost/Nixon briefly touched on some of the key topics but from a historical perspective this film was an anticlimax in comparison to the
