Frosh Week

For students beginning their first semester at Durham College, the transition is a welcoming and positive experience complimented by a variety of services and thorough introductions. The day before school officially begins first-year students are offered a welcoming barbeque and orientation in order to introduce the expectations that accompany post-secondary education. This is beneficial as it allows students an opportunity to meet each other and become familiar with the faculty members of their chosen program. Since attending a new school can be an overwhelming experience, Durham College strives to make that process simpler by providing students with a sense of direction. Students are offered a meet and greet with their teachers and given an opportunity to ask past students’ questions regarding their programs. Durham College also gives out prizes including certificates to get books for the semester at a discount. Attending a new school can be intimidating and Durham College provides many opportunities to become familiar with peers and interact socially. Following the seminar, students are encouraged to attend a free barbeque which allows them to meet one another and clubs, sport teams, and other student associations set up booths within Durham College to recruit first years, and get them involved in their interests. These are not the only opportunities and there are many events during Frosh Week that encourage social interaction, such as sporting events, and special bar nights at EP Taylors. Overall, students can begin their experience with confidence as Durham College accommodates the needs of first-year students and provides the resources necessary for a successful transition socially and
