In 1968, it had become the first book to ever to be awarded both the Newbery Medal and the Newberry Honor within the same year (Barnes & Noble). This iconic book was written in a sophisticated manner due to its English literature essence. The two main characters, Claudia and Jamie, are what gravitate me to the book each time I read it. This is due to their intellectual, yet immature domineer. Being in college instead of in the fourth grade, has greatly heightened my overall understanding of Claudia’s and Jamie’s personal characteristics, as well as their bond with one another. …show more content…
Claudia who is 11 years old and Jamie who is only nine take it upon themselves to make a statement to their family. They run away from their home in Greenwich, a suburb in New York, and head towards the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York City. Claudia is the leader of the group while Jamie deals with the financial aspect of the trip. They successfully hide out in the museum for a while without being noticed. While staying there, they try to learn as much as possible about the different exhibits that are there. A statue called Angel, was created by Michelangelo whom Claudia was very fascinated to learn about. Both she and Jamie decide to find Mrs. Frankweiler and ask her more about the statue. When they talk with her, she makes them a deal, which was, if she told them about the statue than they had to tell her how they ran away from
