The current situation that the United States is in is a society that is slowly trying to move away from a caring society because there are so many political policies that could be taken into place. People now are not willing to pay large amounts of taxes for their value of their lives; however, people are willing to pay for things that are unnecessary for their lives. The government nowadays is working for individuals to maintain the large amounts of money in their pockets and allows companies to maintain a caring society for their own employees. “In the realm of care, the United States is largely exceptional for what it is not doing” (Slaughter 244). Slaughter explains in her essay how the government is taking a step back from what it should be doing if they were the sole provider in the country for the warmth of a caring society. This can relate to the Americo executive in Hochschild’s; in her essay, Hochschild states how the executive “he wished he‘d spent more time with three daughters when they were growing up” (191). This is a struggle that many people have because they cannot provide a comfortable life for their family and can only achieve that by working strenuous hours to provide for their family. However, as discussed earlier the government is not the only provider in modern civilization and the unity of people themselves is also a factor that is a major part of a caring civilization. People are also currently trying too hard to be as efficient as we can be in the world and this is taking time away from the things which could be the most beneficial for ourselves. People are also currently trying to be as efficient as possible so that civilization can continue to make more and more money. People are also not trying to make each other happy anymore because individuals are becoming more self-centered and people only care about making money.
