(a) Frito-Lay, owned by Pepsi co., is a gigantic billion-dollar snack food company whose primary product is chips. Seven of their product lines produce well over a billion dollars in sales each themselves. Some of their popular brands include Fritos, Cheetos, Ruffles, Tostitos, Doritos, and other well known brand names. In order to manage the several global facilities, employee’s, product lines, demand for chips, and other manufacturing variables., Frito-Lay has implemented all ten strategic operations management decisions/techniques and in the process became the world’s largest chip manufacturer. These ten OM decisions faced by the firm included the following: design of goods and services, managing quality, process and capacity design, location strategy, human resources and job design, supply-chain management, inventory management, scheduling, and maintenance. The company has fine tuned each OM area in order to provide themselves with a competitive advantage against opponents. By implementing these strategies correctly, Frito-Lay was able to grow to as big as they are now and become a leader in their industry. While Frito-Lay directly faced all the strategic OM decisions, these are the similar decisions/technique that every business encounters today or will encounter in some form or fashion.
