In the Outsiders by S.E Hinton, good friends support each other even in difficult situations. Would you sacrifice anything for a close friend? If a friend was struggling with something would you help? Would they do the same for you?The Greasers have a strong bond. They are close and will support each other no matter what. All throughout the book they go through very extreme situations. Some being The fire, Johnnys death, Dallys death and much more. They all only have each other so they will have to support no matter what.In the storyline of Outsiders by S.E Hinton shows that in tough situations close friends support no matter what.w
In the beginning, we meet Johnny, a boy who usually does not stick up to the Socs. In a tough situation where Pony is being drowned by 5 other people, Johnny sticks up when usually he doesn’t act that way. He has gotten beat up by these people before and when he finally sticks up to them it shows he really cares about Pony. Pony wakes up and sees something that shocks him: “Bob the handsome Soc, was lying there in the moonlight, doubled up and still. I looked at Johnny's hand. He was clutching the switch blade and it was dark to a hilt”(56). What this shows is that in a very difficult situation Johnny still stood up for Pony. Even when he could have been killed himself. After all the kids are saved, Johnny and Pony notice that the roof is caving in so Johnny pushes Pony out the window and Dally helps put out the fire on Pony's back and manages to save Johnny. “Johnny shoved me toward the window. “Get out!” I leaped out the window and heard timber crashing and flames roaring behind me(93).
