In Antony and Caesar's friendship they show loyalty to each other. One way loyalty is shown in the play is when Antony is speaking at Caesar's funeral. For example, Antony says ''I thrice presented him a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse; was this ambition?''.(III.ii.105) In this quote Antony is showing his loyalty by clearing Caesar's name and proving to the Roman people that he was a good man. This is a good example of loyalty demonstrated in a friendship. Another event that represents loyalty is when Antony revenges the death of Caesar. In this event, Antony shows loyalty by sticking around and fighting for Caesar. In the quote '' These many, then, shall die; their names are prick'd.''(IV.i.1) Antony is revenging the death of Caesar by

The second friendship I think of is Antony and Octavius. This friendship is a political alliance because in act 4 scene one, when Antony talks about how him and Octavius should team up because of Brutus and Cassius. This supports the theory that their friendship is a mere political alliance because Antony himself states that Octavius and him should ally because of a political matter. Instability can be found in the battle of Philippi when Antony says, “Octavius, lead your battle softly on, Upon the left hand of the even field.” and Octavius follows up with “Upon the right hand I; keep thou the left.”.…

We know his loyalty is not solely to himself because he hands the throne to Caesar’s son rather than taking it for himself. Antony states his direct purpose and asks for his audience’s attention outright, thus creating mutual respect through ethos by addressing his peers as equals. In addition, Antony appeals to the crowd’s emotions by mentioning Caesar’s will and how every citizen lies within in lines 132 and 133 of scene 2 in Act III. This employment of pathos riles up the audience and influences them to join his side, yet it also creates a leash with which Antony ties to the crowd to fulfill his agenda. Continuing, Antony leaves nothing to chance or opinion by focusing on the fact that he has no business in disproving Brutus’ words, but only to speak what he knows (III. ii. 100-101). Antony manipulates ethos in this instance to protect his integrity by addressing that his goal does not lie within feuding with another.…
