Thomas Aquinas once said “There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship”. Regarding this, having a lack of close relationships with others would produce a difficult and empty life. Friends should guide others through tough decisions and to direct them into the right direction. Also, they should provide a sense of hope to lift spirits of close ones. Furthermore, companions are reliable people that can be trusted. Friendships should provide assistance in decision making, hope, trust which are vital components for life. Decisions are difficult to be chosen, let alone by an individual. The novel, Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, describes several instances in Chris McCandless’s life where he denies the advice of other characters …show more content…
Companions have special strategies to make others feel safe and inspire them. An example of this is evident in the film Bridge to Terabithia when Jesse and Leslie find and create an imaginary world called Terabithia. This location was their safe place that they ruled and could escape reality. Concerning this, it is evident that Jesse and Lessie were able to create a world in which they had power that caused them to have fun and feel special. Whether it was to drown out school, social problems, family difficulties etc. Terabithia created a feeling of hope because everything seemed to be alright in the imaginary kingdom. Likewise, Max and Kevin from the novel Freak the Mighty had an inseparable relationship. Maxwell Kane acts as a big brother to Kevin Dillon, who suffers from Morquio syndrome. Max befriends Kevin and supports his hope that he will be cured by making a copy of his brain and putting it inside of a new body. However, the cure was not realistic and certainly not possible. Kevin ended up passing away because of his syndrome and even though it was inevitable, Max never gave up to make Kevin happy. Hope can be achieved through
