Within the novel ¨The adventures of Huckleberry Finn", there are many examples of friendship, trust and loyalty, and sacrifice from huck to jim. As a new friendship blossoms, loyalty grows. Through every example of a struggle there is an example of one of these three things. As an outsider looking in i believe huck and jim's journey wouldn't have last so long without these keys to survival.
Huck and Jim had an understanding, not just a friendship. They both had their reasons for running, and they both knew they needed each other to get to where they needed. They valued each others company and tried hard to never fail one another. Huck says, ¨I didn't do him no more mean tricks, and i wouldn´t done that one if i'd knowed it would make him feel that way¨(Twain 97). Huck cares about Jim's feelings and he felt bad for lying to him. Huck also says, ¨I went to sleep, and Jim didn't call me when it was my turn. He often done that¨(Twain 165). Jim lets huck sleep through his watch, staying up all night, for his little friend. Huck says Jim often done that, Huck knows Jim has his back and vice versa. Huck and Jim both look out for each other and care for each others feelings and wellbeing. Huck speaks to Jim after risking it and says, “Git up and hump yourself, Jim! There ain’t a minute to lose. They’re after us!”(Twain 73). Huck goes out of his way dresses like a girl and tries to help Jim and him to freedom and almost gets caught in the making. Together they run towards freedom risking their lives just to help one another. Their town holds slaves to a certain low standard, Huck looks past that and sees Jim as not only a person with feelings but a friend. Jim and Huck speak to each other, "Well, I b'lieve you, Huck.
