Freshman fifteen. It is a common myth that many incoming college students experience. It is claimed that upon entering college, freshman gain fifteen pounds on their first year at school. This may be due to lack of knowledge for proper food choices previously made by their family members. Trying to eat healthy is difficult if students heavily rely on food from the cafeteria or fast food nearby. As a incoming college freshmen that spent his summer learning how to cook, I would like to explain how to create an easy and simple dish that expresses personal preference. This dish is called, “fried rice.” The main ingredient is rice. A common household item is a rice cooker and instructions should be followed in making the designated amount of rice, …show more content…
If a wok is not available then a normal fry pan is usable too. Cooking oil is helpful to make sure none of the ingredients stick to the cookware used to stir fry the ingredients. The scrambled eggs should be made first as it cooks very quickly compared to the other ingredients. Use a spatula or a wooden spoon to help stir fry all the ingredients. Three teaspoons of cooking oil should keep the eggs from sticking to the utensils. Place the cooked scrambled eggs on a separate dish for later. After cooking the egg, add the same amount of oil to the wok or pan and start cooking your meat ingredients. Simultaneously, take this moment to take out the rice from the cooker or pot and allow it to lose its moisture. Keep meat ingredients moving in the wok or pan so it slowly cooks and as it seems close to finish add the vegetables. After cooking the ingredients, incorporate the rice and egg thoroughly mixing all ingredients to add flavor to the rice.
