The main plot tells a story of two women, Ruth Jamison and Idgie Threadgoode and their lives in the 1920’s and 30’s. Ruth and Idgie are business partners, and to many other people, lebians. Which is not shown in the movie, they are just best friends.
The movie is based around the issue of lesbianism, depicting a strong friendship between two women, but never stating so. There were not many stories that address homosexuality in the early 20th century. Which I think is why the author of the novel, didn’t just come out and say so. The Threadgoodes were well known people, and very liked people. But that didn’t stop her from doing whatever she pleased. She was someone who just liked to make people laugh. She definitely had her own character. Idgie was very well concerned with the now. The present. She liked to be in the moment, and not worry about what happened yesterday, or what is going to happen in the future. But she had a sort of hardship that wouldn’t let her forget, like the time her brother died, and she had some days she would look forward to, but she lived in the present none the less. She was also not concerned with wealth. When Idgie was still a teenager, someone came into her life and had a very great impact on it. Ruth
