Friday Poem

I am Sydney Sanders, Alaskan born but Texas is home.
Where the smell of a barnyard is daily and
The tourist come and go,

Where I come from I'm proud to be called
A Granbury Pirate. Where now my Friday's consists of cheering for the varsity
Football games. Where us , the stowaways,
Perform at halftime.

Where I come from our freshly smoked brisket
Gathers the neighborhood.
Along with momma gooey delicious peach
Cobbler where everyone fights for thirds.

Where I come from Sunday mornings
Consists of ladies in cowgirl boots
And sundresses. Where we gather
Holding hands lifting up prayers.

Where I come from sunny days
Gather family and friends out
On the lake. Where the kids
Go tubing and the adults
Laugh and talk.

Where I come from on

    Poem By Big Pun

This dark and aggressive song, by Big Pun, promotes the idea of revenge, retribution and ruthlessness. It includes endless lines of pure violence and harsh messages written in breathtaking poetry, that is powerful enough to completely possess an individual’s attention. Big Pun is without a doubt lyrically gifted, but the morals and ethics he is advocating are troublesome for modern society. He describes murder as something he is born to do, essentially spreading the idea that he is good at it and proud. In addition to this, he raps about emotions of remorse being a negative thing, teaching people that “feeling bad” for others is not a desirable attitude.…

Martha Stout, creator of "When I Woke Up Tuesday Morning, It Was Friday", discusses about two of her patients, Julia and Seth, who experience the effects of dissociative disorder. In any case, at whatever point the dissociative brain experiences any situation that interpret as traumatic, it goes to that finer place every now and again against the person will.…

“Foxtrot Fridays” Through a New Critical Lens New criticism is a common approach to analyze poetry through, and takes all elements of the text into account, but not the author’s intent or reader’s personal identification. “Foxtrot Fridays” is a good poem for this approach because it is relevant to the reader and easy to understand. This poem also has an interesting structure that places emphasis on the both the poem’s subject and elements, adding to its organic unity. “Foxtrot Fridays” is an accessible poem with a strong rhythm and overarching tensions between the calculated yet graceful diction and imagery.…

“ It would be neat, if with the New Year” by Jimmy Baca is a short poem, which holds a deep significance about the past and future, about things that have been parts of our ordinary life. In the poem, the speaker desires a fresh start in his life, but in the end he soon realizes that he can never throw away his past to move on completely. With the skillful uses of symbolism, metaphor, imagery, and narrative poetry, the author successfully leads the mystery and depth of the poem to the readers. To begin with, Baca purposely creates a diversion in the title and the first two sentences to surprise the reader later in the poem. As first, he believes that moving on is the right thing, “It would be neat if with the New Year” (line 1), which shows…

So again, this poem reminds me of my lovely cats and this time I attached a picture of them. The line in particular that reminded me of them was “His eyes, green as ringstones” as Pickles’ eyes are distinctively bright green. In most ways it is good as it makes him extremely cute, but they do end up making a lot of pictures turn out with weird eye glares. Anyways, one time it was around 9 pm so it was already pitch-black outside and my Dad decided he had to go outside to take out the garbage or something.…

While reading “ Your Catfish Friend” by Richard Brautigan I was confused as to the meaning of the poem but after reading it a few times it became clearer. The overarching theme of the poem is a feeling of being unattractive and wanting to belong. From the very beginning of the poem one gets the sense that the author believes he is in accordance with a catfish a fish that: is a bottom feeder, lives in mud, and is known for being unpleasant. Brautigan juxtaposes his negative feeling of self worth with beautiful scenery where the catfish lives.…
