The repeated use of line also determines how the column appears to be damaged and how each crack leads to another. The line also applies to the split skin along the sides of the column where it appears as if she has been cut open to reveal what's inside. Kahlo’s use of rhythm in this painting also helps prove that art is a lie, the woman in the painting has nails embedded in every part of her skin, including her neck, a person wouldn’t be able to live with nails lodged in their skin like this and couldn’t live long with their chest torn open unless they were having some type of surgery where they would be under amnesia and close supervision.
