Frida Kahlo Research Paper

The artist who I find the most interesting is Frida Kahlo. Frida Kahlo was a Mexican self portrait artist. She was well known, and it still well known as a strong feminist icon. She was born on July 6, 1907, in Coyocoan, Mexico City, Mexico. Frida Kahlo began her art work after a horrific bus accident she was involved in which lead to fractures to her spine and pelvis. One of her art pieces included a visual representation of her accident, which shows her spirit reflecting over her body lying on the ground after the accident. The drawing also shows other bus riders laying across the street and the actual bus itself colliding with another street car. Frida Kahlo was diagnosed with gangrene in her right foot which is what caused her to spend nine months in the hospital. Although she was not allowed by her doctor to leave her bed to attend her exhibition, she did not miss it. Frida ordered to have her taken to the opening in her bed. Later, Kahlo's happiness dwindled when she had her right foot amputated to prevent the spread of gangrene. Despite being again hospitalized due to very poor health, and a reported suicide attempt, she did not let it interfere with her activism in politics. Her last public appearence was a demonstration against the U.S-backed overthrow of President Jacobo Arbenz of Guatemala on the second of July. Frida Kahlo died on July 13 at her beloved Blue House. There were some speculations of the nature of her death, some saying it was caused by a pulmonary embolism, but others having stories of possible suicide. Frida Kahlo's fame only grew larger after her death. Her home was opened as a museum in 1958 showing all of her art work.
