Frida Kahlo: My Inspiration

Improved Essays
Frida Kahlo is my inspiration. I remember the first time I actually studied one of her paintings with more than a passing, curious glance, when I read pages from her journal and grew voracious wanting to know more about her. It would have been hard to say at first what about her I clicked with. I would have only been able to describe abstract emotions, complicated thoughts and ideas all tangled together as I happily unknotted ideas that gave me such joy, such inspiration. Now, I feel a closer bond with the person I look up to so much, I have an understanding of her that will only grow with time and experience. An understanding that will teach me throughout my life as it has taught me now. Basely, I was attracted to Kahlo’s life, art, and

Set Centuries apart in completely different points in time, two artists in particular Frida Kahlo and Judith Leyster created individual masterpiece self-portraits. Considered as one of Mexico’s greatest artists alive, Frida started painting after suffering injuries in a bus accident (Bio). Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter, who has achieved great international popularity. Many of her works are self-portraits that symbolically express her own pain and sexuality (The Complete Works). Significant personal events in one’s life can act to influence an individual’s artmaking practice. This is evident through Frida Kahlo’s artwork ‘The Broken Column’ 1944, Jenny Sages ‘After Jack’ 2012 and Christian Thompson ‘King Billy’ 2010. Frida Kahlo, is the first example of such an individual as she experienced a horrible accident causing permanent damage to her spine. As a result of the accident, Kahlo became influenced to paint through using her emotion as a driving force to paint where Kahlo states “I am broken, but I am happy as long as I can paint”. This is depicted in Kahlo’s artwork ‘The Broken Column’ in plate 4 which depicts a figure namely Kahlo herself being pricked by nails with the presence of a broken pillar.…

I have a very standard culture, and I grew up in a very standard home. My culture mixes with the culture of the different sides of my family, as well as the different cultures of my friends and peers, but all cultures I come in contact with are unique and it’s all different and extremely exciting. I decided that, for this essay, I will go back in time to another country to discover how a small Lithuanian family worked together through World War II, and how the culture they were raised with aids and affects them in their journey. The book I read was called Between Shades of Gray, the story starts with Lina, a fifteen year old girl, whose house is invaded in the night and her, her mother, and her younger brother are being deported out of their home, across the continent in train cars. I will analyze the ways that Lina’s culture aided and hindered her, and compare their aspects of…

I agree quite strongly with Hemingway that age brings increasing difficulty in finding heroes, but that one still needs them. As skepticism increases, the number of people one can admire or hope to emulate decreases. An older person, having more experience and having acquired, one hopes, a more objective and realistic assessment of other people, tends to see more flaws than a younger person might. On the other hand, the older person is likely to recognize and value certain qualities such as careful reasoning, empathy, and kindness that a younger person might overlook or consider irrelevant. (Yet another problem is that a person's heroes tend to be older than herself, and the number of possibilities dwindles, but that has to be accepted!)…

Although she was much criticized for her tactics, her fight is recognized as a crucial effort in achieving women's suffrage in Britain. However, historians disagree about the effect of her activity on public support for the cause. From my point of view, Emmeline Pankhurst was one of the most inspirational women I know because she not only risked constantly her life due to violent police oppression, every time she was in prison or suffered alarming hunger strikes, also she worried about the disadvantaged and she was a poor law guardian in workhouses. In my opinion, Emmeline was a good person regardless of their family relationships with some of their daughters considering that she adopted four children even being widow and with no wealth.…

Hurston's novels and short stories of folklore resulted from her anthropological research and are important sources on the oral cultures of African-Americans (“Zora Neale Hurston-Official”). The arts have always had a high importance in my life, especially within the last few years.
