Friar's Quote Analysis

I believe the Friar’s quote illustrates the need for quintessential people to both foster and expand positive change. In this current era, people are opportunistic and only do behaviors that are selfless in nature for image. Still, to be despondent means that we have lost hope in one another and that we can longer find people of true virtue. Never fret though, for I know that there are those who seek to improve humanity without selfish intentions. For instance, my friend Jessenia, via a small action changed my view of what it meant to be truly compassionate for the least of our neighbors. In late May of my senior year of high school, Jessenia, friends of ours, and I were hanging out in the Santa Fe Springs Plaza. We were walking around and …show more content…
I thank Jessenia for that day because her actions lit a spark in my heart to become more caring for my fellow man. Fast forward to college and I applied Jessenia’s actions into my extra-curricular work. So, during my first semester of college, I became Vice President of Community Service for Alpha Gamma Sigma Honors society and motivated members to not only volunteer for hours on their transcript but for the benefit of the community. I orchestrated and executed volunteer events on this concept by sharing Jessenia’s story with them and how that directed my decisions. I made it paramount for the members to understand just how their decisions not only affected themselves but others as well. Also, as VP of community service, I focused all my efforts on helping homeless shelters either with food drives, clothes drives, or refurbishment projects. Reason being, because I sympathized with the destitute individuals and I wanted to make a positive difference in their lives. I believe that if it was not for Jessenia, I would not have been able to grow as a person, I would not have had the joyful experience that volunteer work has bestowed onto me, I would not have learned to be appreciative of what I have and more importantly, I would have not been able to sympathize with those who are not as privileged as

As a nun working in the slums of Calcutta, she possessed true humbleness and embraced humility in her work. She is an excellent model of how one should live out The Beatitudes.…
