The Impact of Friars in the Americas
The natives in the Latin America were living their way of life until the Spanish arrival. Many native tribes started to encounter priest from different secular clergy groups such as Franciscans, Dominicans and Jesuits. These missionaries emphasize their success of converting the native tribes and creating a new world order. The religious groups indict the native’s rituals and wanted to start a priesthood that will allow them to be free from “demons”. The Friars concentrate on the society or community by giving them the opportunities to gather around families and other villagers. For instance the native demonstrates Catholic devotion and customize respect to their ancestors. The natives of Latin America were known to be “the lost people without history” (Martin and Wasserman). Many native manuscripts and written artifacts were destroyed by Spanish rulers and erase from the religious groups. However, there are a few natives that would preserve their historical fact from memories. According to Martin and Wasserman, defines the native to be civilized after the influence of the Friars because they understand that the lands were once theirs. They would try and defend themselves in fighting for the rights of the land. There were many natives that do not retain their own past identity. According to Martin and Wasserman, the European disease would kill thousands of native that would accentuate them to change their way of living. Being civilize is one way of not spreading the disease that was already brought from the Spanish people. The Spanish lied and brain wash the natives into thinking it was their own fault that the people are dying from the diseases. This was considered to be one of the main skims that the Friars would do to bribe the natives into thinking that way of living was wrong and
