Love can heal violent conflicts, so the violence is not needed. An example of this can be seen here: "For this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households' rancor to pure love." (2.3 91-92). Friar Lawrence is explaining to Romeo and Juliet that their loving marriage might destroy the hatred between the Montague and Capulet families, and stop the violence by replacing it with with pure love. Friar Lawrence is the only person in the play that can see the big picture that the love from Romeo and Juliet can end the feud, which is why that he agrees to help with the secret wedding.
