Friar Lawrence Advisor or Deceiver?
A good mentor is a gift from the universe, a bad one puts you in your deathbed within a week. That is exactly what happened in Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence might have truly cared about his confessors but he provided horrible advice. This advisor had wrong approaches to several situations and ended up ruining two innocent lives. Friar Lawrence was a selfish, cowardly priest, who we presume had no experience in love and yet carried on with his guiding. Many Shakespearean readers believe Friar Lawrence was a companionate and wise adviser, however, the truth is Friar had good intentions but due to poor choices and deceptive behaviours showed in his mentoring, he ultimately contributed to the teenager's tragic deaths.
We all know that Friar was an unusual priest, he collected herbs but also poison, which is definitely not normal for a minister of a church. If he collected poison, what was the purpose? Why did he need it? He had a less conservative mind compared to other Friars. When Romeo came joyful and excited to his chamber, determined to get married the following morning. He tried to go along with their plans because even if it ruined Romeo and Juliet’s lives, it could change the course of the Capulet-Montague rivalry. You can clearly see that Friar had no experience with love and decided to make the most of the situations. He was open minded about his ideas but did not carry them out with a solid primary plan. He is the guy that manages to fool Juliet's parents and husband Romeo that she is dead.
