Natalie began her speech with some effective hooks, noticeably grabbing the attention of the audience. This was done in a two-step process, in which she first asked the audience “How do you live a good life?” a general question which seemed to attract some audience attention. She then transitioned into her topic by showing very spectacular and indulging images of sweet desserts while describing how delicious they are, effectively using visual rhetoric to grasp the attention of the remainder of the audience and enhance the pathos of her speech.…

Dana travels through events of the antebellum south, and faces many harsh obstacles along the way. If the Newseum is torn down, the first amendment will not have a place to be celebrated just for itself, so there will be no place to celebrate the first American Constitutional freedom. President Trump is pressuring Congress into passing a bill that will start a project to make room for new monuments. The project will consist of tearing down monuments that the government feels are unnecessary. The project will ruin DC and the American spirit. If the bill does pass, the Newseum should definitely not be torn down since it is a reminder of what America is, it will have horrible economic effects on the country, and tearing it down will diminish the American spirit.…

Bill Clinton If I were to talk to Bill Clinton I would ask him what his thoughts are now, in retrospect, on lying to the American people about his relationship with the young aid Monica Lewinski, what advice he could give to President Donald Trump, and what his thoughts are on his wife losing the election. I think these are all really raw and juicy topics to talk to Bill about especially at a time when the nation is in such mental despair. The long term effects look quite different from those of the Watergate, the scandal crisis of 25 years ago which enhanced the reputation of the press and shifted the power balance between Congress and the president. What president Clinton did was inexcusable and lowered the expectations that American people had of their president and Congress.…

Growing up, we had to take around fifteen years of history classes, teaching us of the past and what our ancestors did. Did you ever think they not only taught us those things so we’d have bar trivia knowledge, but also as a warning? Unlike textbook readings of the past, where you have to wonder what it must’ve been like, Octavia Butler makes the readers of Kindred to actually place themselves in the 1800s, making them emphasize with Dana-our time traveling heroin-and the other slaves. Reading Kindred, one has to wonder, has anything really changed? There is still horrible cases of racism and prejudice in the United States, more than 300 years later.…
