Fresnel Lens

The Fresnel lens was first invented by French physicist Augustine Fresnel and at first were a simple, beehive resembling contraption with a light source in the middle, but then it developed into something that mirrored a bull’s eye with a more powerful beam (Fresnel Lenses). The Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy went on to explain that the Fresnel lens was created for the sole purpose of installation within lighthouses. The efficiency and power of a Fresnel lens allowed its design to emit a source of light for 15 or more miles beyond its initial point. When individuals were out at sea, it was difficult for them to see beyond a couple miles, the Fresnel lens enables lighthouses to produce not only better lighted paths, but to show individuals

Benjamin Franklin is generally credited with the invention of bifocals. Historians found evidence to suggest that others may have come before him in the invention. however, a correspondence between George Whatley and John Fenno, editor of The Gazette of the United States, suggested that Franklin had indeed invented bifocals, and perhaps 50 years earlier than had been originally thought. Since many inventions are developed independently by more than one person, it is possible that the invention of bifocals may have been such a case. Nonetheless, Benjamin Franklin was among the first to wear bifocal lenses, and Franklin's letters of correspondence suggest that he invented them independently, regardless of whether he was the first to invent them.…

Flare is usually caused by a bright light source, for example the sun. To mitigate or eliminate flare a lens hood can be used. This consists of a petal-shaped hood which takes into account the wide form factor of the sensor. Multi-coated lens elements also help to reduce undesirable reflections and greatly reduces flaring.…
