College, the natural next step for many seniors in high school. After years of hard work—or lack thereof—in high school, it is time to start anew again. You will have new friends, new teachers (they are called professor now), and a new environment. Just like with anything new, it takes some time to adjust to the environment, so listen carefully. Decorate your dorm. For those living on campus, make your room and common area feel like home, because it is where you will be living for the next year. Don’t let it look like a jail cell. Place posters, paintings, a piece of paper—anything that personalizes your living area.
8. Put effort in college. Tuition at UTD is most probably going to rise next year, and with the cost of books, rent, and food, college is going to be very costly. However, going to college is still one of the best investment a high school student can make. College opens up so many opportunities, and therefore, you shouldn’t waste it. Put some effort in your classes, and you will get the results you want in the near future.
9. Lastly, all freshman are in the same boat. Every freshman is just as new to UTD as you are, and they are probably just as terrified. Therefore, you should bond with all your terrified peers and be a terrified cohort. Most people at UTD are friendly, but someone has to initiate every conversation.
