Freshman Year Research Paper

Starting high school can seem scary and nerve wracking for a freshman, yet overwhelming because it is a step closer to graduating and starting your own life. My experience as a freshman in high school consisted of having to make decisions which could impact my future, finding myself, and making time for friends and family. Being a student in high school can become very stressful and demanding. Especially when you are in extracurricular activities, staying after school everyday, and going to competitions/contests during your weekend making it become a part of your daily routine. During my freshman year, Mrs. Martinez, the band director, constantly told the band students that band takes away a person’s day and time. Education prepares you for the real world and what the real world has to throw at you. Freshman year was harsh, it felt as if it was the end of the world for me. I was failing my English class, a class which determined if I was able to keep marching that season for band. A class that determined my class rank and whether or not I would be grounded when I got home after my parents received that report card. I once asked my English teacher, Mrs. Adams, “Mrs. Adams, I was wondering what I could do to help boost my grade up..” after getting laughed at and getting told “Yeah, that’s not going to happen.” Towards the end of the day, I decided that that incident should not destroy my self esteem. I began to get my life together, stay after school and focus even more on my grades. If I did not understand what we were learning, I asked helped in class even if the teachers thought it was too stupid to answer.
