Freshman Year Essay

Going into freshman year, I was told by upper classmen to get involved in every extracurricular activity Iowa-Grant has to offer. I took this advice and joined FBLA, not knowing what FBLA was all about. My freshman year, was the opening year for the Panther Pit Stop, this gave me insight on what it takes to run a small business and all hard work it takes for a successful business. Working in the store, I have learned in order to be successful and get more business, you need to take risks and try new things. I feel the most important thing I have learned through FBLA, is in order to be a successful group you have to work all together as one unit. The success of the school store, the spaghetti dinners, and the new printing press business is all

High school is a staple of American culture. Popular culture is littered with high school imagery: cheerleaders at the homecoming game, senior prom, and finally, graduation. It is a major time of growth for adolescents and serves as a stepping stone into the adult world, giving students the skills and experiences needed to be successful later in life. However our perception of high school and the ‘high school experience’ is rapidly changing as alternatives to traditional schooling appear. An excellent example of this is an emerging program commonly referred to as ‘early college high school’, a duel enrollment program that allows high school students to receive an associate’s degree while earning their high school diploma.…

Arguments on the merit of the implementation of year round schooling in the American public school system arose in the early 1900s, but have grown in complexity with time. In contemporary society, there are several factors affecting the decision of instituting a year round school schedule in place of a traditional school schedule, including its effects on the students, their parents, and the administrators. However, in order to determine the true value of instituting one of the many options for year round calendars, the American nation as a whole must consider the effect of the transition on the American economy. Such factors include the effect of the transition between calendars on the energy costs necessary to keep a school running, student ability to obtain employment, and costs of constructing new schools and additions onto already standing schools to avoid…

Should schools have balanced schedule or all year round schooling? No, there are many disadvantages to having a balanced calendar. Some of these reasons are it still takes about the same amount of time throughout the year to reteach information forgotten from breaks, it is hard to find a babysitter for short intervals of time rather than a big block of time with a high school student wanting a job, and lastly students having a summer job is almost completely eliminated. The number one reason for school turning away from the balanced schedule is because the main reason they went to them is to reduce the learning curve (summer slide), where student forgot information over their 12 week break.…

Year Round Schooling Year round schooling has become more, and more common in the United States. The traditional school year has been in practice for decades and in this time, has shown that it is greatly successful. To switch to year-round schooling would overall be incredibly inconvenient for each person involved. The traditional school year should remain in Niagara because in comparison to year-round schooling it is less expensive, more convenient for parents, and offers more opportunities for students. Funding for education is expensive enough as is, and possibly making the school year longer could alter these costs. To fund education all school staff must be paid, which includes teachers, secretaries, and janitors.…

The Concreted Declaration of the Students of Rowland High School, When in course of human events, it becomes necessary for the school to dismiss the compulsory nature of the school system, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the free and lenient station which the Laws of Nature and of the country entitle them, an adequate respect to the opinions of students demands that they should declare the causes which impel them to dislike school as a whole. We hold these truths to be pronounced: that all students are created equal, that they are given by their Creator the rights of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness, and that they have been enduring the harsh and stressful environment of school for as long as they have. In order for…

Since the first day, time has been flying really fast. Starting a fresh new day, meeting the same teachers and same old friends, I still cannot imagine that I am now a senior! In my senior year, there will definitely be a lot of challenges and obstacles for me to conquer, but I believe that as long as I do everything step by step, I can beat down the difficulties in this senior year. When I was in junior year, I often heard last year’s seniors told me how hard is it to come up with a senior project topic, and they kept on reminding me to start thinking of my topic and finding my mentors. Luckily, I had research method class last year, so I knew how to do my APA style references and I had many presentations experiences last year.…

Three years elapsed, and with those years gone, so were my hardships. The start of my fourth year marked the turning point for me and what made my final year in high school a memorable one. Unlike the years prior where my opinion didn’t matter, my senior year was when I was finally recognized and praised for my abilities. I felt like I was an asset to the team rather than someone who was just taking up space. I was given first priority when the time had come to pick numbers.…

My Junior year of high school was my challenging year, the reason to that is because we had to study for our Act also we had our grad MCAs to take. I must say it was really difficult knowing that we had those two big major tests in the same week. The amount of studying was ridiculous but in my head for a whole two months I was reminding myself that it will benefit me in the future that I need this to graduate. One part I didn 't have to worry was a portion of the MCA like the Algebra part. But the part that was extremely hard for me was geometry.…

My first semester of college has been an intersting learning experience. It has been full of ups and downs. I’ve learned a lot since being in college, mostly how to take charge of my life and get my priorities straight.
