I think I am a strong candidate for this program because I have always been involved in several activities in order to expand my personal growth and knowledge. Here at Penn State, I am a member of the Anthropology Club and treasurer of the Sophomore Year Experience Special Living Option. Sophomore Year Experience is in the process of being developed into an officially recognized organization here at the main campus. My fellow executive board members and committee members are developing activities, classes, and programs to involve sophomores in finding more information about majors, internships, and future career plans. These organizations have given me the opportunity to develop leadership roles and communication skills as these are necessary…

I have realized that my grades don’t necessarily reflect on who I am, but my progression and potential, and in comparison to previous years, I have progressed profoundly because I now understand that what counts in high school is what you make of it for yourself, not changing yourself to meet everyone’s expectations. This idea of transitioning…

Freshman Survival Now that you passed middle school and about to attend your first year of high school as a freshman, there are some things you need to know before going to the major classes. One thing is that ninth grade is sort of like eighth grade, but as the year progresses there are different concepts that are new to you. Don't worry, you're not the only one; other ninth graders are confused with this too, so you should probably ask. Another thing is that you must be prepared at all times when you walk into a classroom and, when the bell rings, class starts. During your first week of high school, teachers usually give you a paper saying what you need throughout the year.…

My second year of high school was difficult for me as I had taken on my first AP class and I had learned that my aunt had been diagnosed with cancer. That year took a toll on my grades, overall GPA, and class ranking, which all went down because I focused all of my attention solely on my one AP class. I would also be constantly worried about my aunt and I would catch myself drifting off just thinking about her, hoping that she was okay. Junior year, I was determined to obtain a higher GPA and a better class ranking, and as a result I would skip out on family events when I had homework to do…

With this apparent inadequacy, I remember challenging myself to overcome. I set the bar high and challenged myself to constantly improve. The hard work paid off, and by the end of my senior year of high school, I was voted by my class “Most Changed Since Freshman Year” out of over 500 students (While also being nominated in the “Best Personality” category).…
