The fire of one’s fervor burns bright despite the unfamiliarity of a situation. One cannot reside in the comfort zone forever; a single secure flicker upon the wick of a candle offers little more than a moment’s distraction. Though I harbor a love for music and teaching, I oftentimes doubt my abilities, and such doubt was forced aside in my freshman year when I was encouraged to teach a handful of my peers to play trombone. Taking on the role of instructing other musicians forced me from cozy reservation and ignited in me a zeal for not only leading but for teaching and encouraging an audience.
