I was a freshman in high school and it was the start of the football season. In my mind, my expectations for this season were not high. I was expecting to play freshman ball, but I was to be proven wrong. It came to fourth down and 10 to go to get a first down and we had to go 40 yards to score a touchdown. The coach called a run play, and in my head it did not make any sense, so I changed the play to a pass play. I said “Red, Set, Go" and we ran the pass play, the coaches were “Screaming that’s not the play!” I ignored what they were saying and continue the play. I waggled away and saw Zach McCammon covered. The right read would have been to keep the ball and run, however I decided to throw and "threaded the needle" to Zach. We completed the pass and I scored a touchdown. The coaches were surprised and a little bit mad that I changed the play call. Coach Puglio said, “That takes guts kid, I like that in you.” That comment to me made my day and change my life forever. Later in the month of August, we learned that there will no longer be a freshman football team. The freshman team was bumped up to Varsity and Junior Varsity. I had no clue I was going to end up starting a varsity game. We had a couple of weeks before our first game and I was going to start

The season went on and I kept improving and finally, we made it to the state championships. After substituting in the end of the semi-finals, my coach pulled me aside and told me that I would be starting as middle linebacker for the final championship game.…
