The purpose of this assignment was designed as a way for the instructor, as well as for me to understand how reading and writing has impacted my life both academically and personally thus far, and displays in my writing skills. Through brainstorming several ideas and writing them down on paper, I narrowed down the topic I was going to write about by process of elimination, which in term means that I chose the topic based upon what truly impacted my life from reading and in this case that strong impact occurred when I was a young child when my parents read to me. In this project, I feel I accomplished particularly well exactly how reading impacted me by incorporating examples in my writing style which supports points from my thesis as well as describing to the reader how I learned through pictures and other visual imagery throughout my reading. I feel that my greatest improvement from one draft to the next was the correct use of past and present tense words. Through feedback from my peer editor, I realized that I needed to reduce the use of the same words being used at the beginning of my sentences mainly in my conclusion paragraph and throughout my essay. The purpose of this assignment was for me to compile research on the topic and form an opinion through extensive research. I refined my topic on sex education specifically to public schools in America. I feel that I accomplished particularly well the research as it was thorough, balanced, and well documented throughout the essay. Through feedback from my instructor, I realized that I wrote an impressive paper and the only constructive criticism that was provided was that I should have divided my first paragraph into two.
