Trail is a youth philanthropic organization which receives money from the much larger Dekko Foundation, and it is our duty to use our time, talents, and treasures to enhance the lives of the youth of Limestone County. Each year we receive about twenty-five thousand dollars that we can grant to other organizations that fit our mission statement. My sophomore year of high school, the incumbent treasurer was about to graduate, and that officer position was critical to the success of our group. Meeting with actual business executives, creating a budget of twenty-five thousand dollars, and leading the discussion on how to allocate real money is certainly a daunting task, so the position was not easily filled. I decided that with determination and a willingness to ask for help from those around me, I could learn the ropes and fulfill that hole in our organization. I won the position and it taught me how to lead without always standing at the front of the room. I learned invaluable lessons from both the older Trail members and the Dekko executives, and thankfully we met all three goals for that school year. This experience gave me my first real leadership experience outside of my high school. I gained the courage to lead, and the following year I was elected President of Trail. I would love to build upon these experiences and continue learning how to lead with the Freshman Leadership
