When freshman first set foot inside of the dorms, they have high hopes. They don’t see a rundown sink or a cracked window, they see freedom. They see freedom from parents, fun nights, and no rules. Sometimes, freshman who come in the dorm learn to manage their time and handle their responsibilities. While others tend to lose focus, become lazy, irresponsible, and ultimately start failing their classes. Some people may say it’s up to the student to learn the adjustment from living under household rules to having youre own freedom. But how can they learn how to if they have no teaching to do so? Every student reacts to this transition differently. Some students choose to stay up studying while others choose to stay up causing disturbances being loud. The student playing loud music ends up affecting the students living around him by keeping them up or distracting others from their studies. When asking a friend of mine about their college experience, they said: “The outer environment you are in will always affect you to a certain point, but ultimately you can control to what level you allow it to affect you. My freshmen year, I was negatively affected by my suite mate’s poor hygiene and my upstairs neighbors persistent stomping this year. I had to decide how to confront them and work towards a resolution. There have also been instances where I was the disturbance as well. I recently had the police come because I was too loud and a noise compliant was issued by my neighbor (Kacie Wall).” It’s difficult adjusting to living on your own and taking on more responsibilities for yourself but it can and has been

Someone once said, "Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret." This essentially means that discipline will be difficult to manage but it’s a finer choice than regretting your decisions later on. School can be difficult, but the pain of the self-command and devotion will get you much further in your education than lackadaisical and deprecate. It seems to me that future freshmen with a hard work ethic and commitment should attend Early College High School because it saves the student time, money and you provides a safe atmosphere with a supportive audience. Not only is Early College High School a free program…

Freshman year of high school is scary for anyone, the enormous transition from being a top dog at middle school, back to an underclassman; wondering if your high school teachers will be as unforgiving as your 8th grade teacher’s descriptions, or even just that uncertainty that comes along with any major change. As a homeschooler entering school system for the first time, and having completely skipped 8th grade, it was terrifying. I had no idea what to expect, I worried about being behind the other students, or having missed something in my homeschooling curriculum, even interacting with other kids was all unfamiliar. It definitely didn’t help that, at 13, I was the youngest person in the building. Just two days into the school year, I discovered that P-AP world…

When I first started university, I had to go to an advising session; while, I do not remember what it was about, The one thing that managed to grab my attention was when the advisor said “I can spot a freshman a mile away” when someone asked her how, she replied” just search for people who look lost and confused”. It struck a chord deep within me because I was really lost and confused, not only that but also anxious, friendless, and afraid of all the responsibilities and of the possibility of failing. While my family assured me that these obstacles are the key element in becoming more responsible, and overcoming them will allow me to discover my strengths and weaknesses. I, on the other hand, felt like these obstacles were not character builders, but more like energy and time consumers that affected the academic performances and health of both my peers’ and myself. I strongly believe that fixing these problems should be one of the university’s priorities.…

With the high demand for students to obtain a college degree, the majority of society assumes high school seniors should make college the next step in their lives. However, going to college and actually completing the journey is much easier said than done. Many factors such as the price of tuition, the increased competition for scholarships and admission, and the level of support and encouragement one has affect those "college times" in a person 's life. An aspect of this journey that really stands out to me is the use of programs that aid first-generation college students. From the financial aid to the programs ' mentoring benefits, these programs can make a huge difference in the lives of so many people hoping to obtain the education they…

High school. People say it’s either the best or worst four years of your life. Of course they never give you the details of what makes them the worst or best years. Which means, I, a terrified 8th grader convince myself that they will be the worst four years of my life. Honestly it is easy to guess that.…

Due to the large amounts of dependency on their teachers, college freshmen do not have the proper preparation from their public high school and early education to conquer college. In the blog “Message to My Freshman Students” written by Keith M. Parsons, he stated “In high school your education was basically a test-preparation service.” Without the proper learning experience in place, I believe that compared to college, high school is a big leap for most students. Consequently, students feel that they should be “catered” to, that it is the teacher’s responsibility for their success, and they have been preparing for college in the wrong ways. First, students have grown to acknowledge that during their years in school that they are the focus…

Three years elapsed, and with those years gone, so were my hardships. The start of my fourth year marked the turning point for me and what made my final year in high school a memorable one. Unlike the years prior where my opinion didn’t matter, my senior year was when I was finally recognized and praised for my abilities. I felt like I was an asset to the team rather than someone who was just taking up space. I was given first priority when the time had come to pick numbers.…

The broke college kid Now I apologize for writing about such a cliche, honestly the phrase itself is synonymous with the word college, followed by ramen noodles, but that 's a different story. Many individuals use the term rather loosely and assume that every college student is in fact broke, but I beg to differ. Durning my time as an undergrad I did not seem to be surrounded by many "broke kids". They were very much well traveled, vehicle owners, Thursday night bar night college students.…

Some students love this privilege and do an excellent job of keeping everything on course, while others do not take it well and end up going back home. But, for everyone, it is a critical learning experience. It teaches young adults responsibility and independence for life beyond…

My first semester of college has been an intersting learning experience. It has been full of ups and downs. I’ve learned a lot since being in college, mostly how to take charge of my life and get my priorities straight. I learned that being successful in college depends on how you prioritize your work and how serious you take it. At first my priorities weren 't where they were supposed to be, and I realized my grades were going to suffer if I did not change.…
