To a large extent I agree that it was the short term causes that caused the French revolution. Although there are many short term causes that helped affect the French revolution, the two short terms causes that will be discussed are the ones that caused the most damage. The first short term cause that had caused the French revolution was The American revolution, as it showed that enlightened leaders could beat a monarchy which represented freedom, and the second is financial troubles as many people had low food supply and had to pay taxes which they could not afford, however, one long term causes will be discussed that helped affect the revolution which is the social side of things.
The American war of independence started is 1775, the war was between the Great Britain and the American colonists. Both American and French had many enlightenment ideas, both American and French leadership at the time of the revolution were very cruel especially when it came towards taxation. This lead both areas to suffer social and financial hardship, this was when they realised something must change to the chain of command and put power back to the people hands. But for most peasants they were unable to pay for food already as it is so more and more peasants became beggars. As the days would get worse more peasants would move to urban regions to find work but the more that moved the less work there were, and huger issues also started to happen in the urban areas. In august 1788 this was when France declared they were officially bankrupt, this made the Estates General to make the tax a higher
