There were many regions in Algeria where the number of Europeans were more than Algerians. The French wanted to introduce the ‘French Lifestyle’ to every country they colonised. They wanted the natives to learn and dress like the French. They wanted the locals to follow the social norms they followed. Subsequently, the Algerians adopted to the French lifestyle. Socially, native Algerians were seen as inferior compared to colonists, and were oppressed, losing much of their status. Eventually, social differences led the Algerians to create their own social group, which later on became major revolutionaries when Algeria began to resist French control.
After French conquest of Algiers, many French people migrated to Algeria and caused cultural mingling. The French introduced christianity to each and every country they colonised, but were unsuccessful in doing it in Algeria. The country’s 99 percent of the population are muslims.
