But it is less likely for the world to consider parents to be oppressors. It is easy for parents to oppress their children because children depend on their parents. This provides parents a sense of power over children which leads them to show an act of oppression. Although, it cannot be denied that the reason behind parent’s actions are due to their desire to provide a good life for their children. The universe creates a structure between parents and children that is similar to the banking concept. This concept is based on the process of receiving, filing and storing the deposit that is identical to money. Freire used education as an example of the banking concept where students receive, memorize and repeat informations given to them by teachers (Pedagogy 72). The attitudes and practices among students and teachers are not different between children and parents (Pedagogy 73). The oppressive society creates a concept of parents to teach and know everything and children to be taught and know absolutely nothing. Parents must discipline their children if the child does not follow their orders and children should be disciplined for not doing what they are told. A child is never allowed to teach or discipline the parent. If the child ever tries to teach the parent, it is not considered to be teaching. Freire stated that we should be conscious with our leadership. It is important to be aware that our leadership does not turn into oppression. Leaders should see themselves equal to their followers in order to avoid becoming oppressors (Pedagogy 126). Oppression is bound to happen between parents and children because parents are setup to be thinkers and children instructed to be doers. Parents are expected to think for their children and children are required to do what their parents think. Since parents created and raised their children, they adapt mindset of children as their possession. It is quite often when parents do not have dialogue with children. In Freire’s belief revolutionary leaders who do not act dialogically with people have gained the characteristics of the dominator.
