7 Hacks to Combat Freezing Office Syndrome

Do you often find yourself shriving at the office? Have you seen fights break out over the thermostat? Unfortunately, many suffer with this problem and are left to battle freezing office temperatures. While finding that “perfect” temperature that everyone can agree upon is difficult, there is an underlying reason why there is a difference in temperature preference between men and women. According to a study published in the journal Nature Climate Change reveals that office temperatures are actually based on a formula that was developed in the 1960’s! Pay attention to your wardrobe, choose long sleeve tops over short sleeves; avoid open toed shoes and thin fabric. If you spend your whole workday in a chilly office, be sure to dress the part.
3. Coffee anyone? When you find yourself caught in a cold office, a warm cup of coffee or tea can help alleviate the chills by add heat directly to your core.
4. Take a blanket, I know it sounds odd, but a small fleece throw blanket might just be the thing to keep your body’s internal core warm.
5. Don’t forget your hat, more body heat is lost through the extremities (i.e. head, hands and feet) than any other place in the body.
6. Numb fingers? Try a pair of fingerless gloves, keeping your hands warm while still able to use fingers can make all the difference between comfort and cold.
7. Speaking of different and extreme, how about a nice pair of battery operated heated socks? Sound futuristic, I know; but there are many personal warm devices on the market; everything from chemical based heating pads to battery operated heating clothing to help you achieve the ultimate goal, attempting to stay comfortable when the building itself is out to get you.
