Freewrite Analysis

Freewrite is something I will highly recommend to everyone, especially for students like me that English wasn’t their first language, I’ll keep writing at even I have complete both STACC 10 and also 1A. To begin with, to honest with you, at the beginning I wasn’t quite sure about the entire freewriting thing, I don’t think that freewriting will improve my writing skill at all. Also, just like many other student out there, it mean more work to do and most of the student at like me doesn’t like to do work that extra. Even though I had complaint but still I was keep press on because it was worth some point and I do not want to fail this class because this reason. The writing expected from college courses is one that most are unfamiliar with. Although students learn basic English skills throughout grade school and up to high school, most of the advanced steps are forgotten by the time the student is to enter college. Paired with this, are the nontraditional students, who haven’t studied advanced academic language for long periods of time. Professors are expecting students of all kinds of study to have a high academic vocabulary and high writing skill. Often times a gap in remedial writing courses within the first semester or so.…

During this semester of English W131, I have experienced both accomplishments and setbacks while learning how to improve my writing skills. Throughout the course, I have learned that writing is not only about how much information is in the paper, but also about how well the writer’s thoughts are expressed throughout the text. Practicing many different styles of writing as I did in the class has helped me tremendously with my delivery in my writing. I believe that this course was one to prepare us for future writing courses with professors we will encounter who will give us feedback that may puzzle us because it will require more work and more thinking. Although I have had difficulty in the class, I do believe that I have learned from my mistakes and that I am finishing the course with stronger writing skills that will help me though the rest of my college career and life.…

Writing has not been my strongest subject throughout my time being in school. I’ve always struggled with the English language since it was my second language. This transferred to my writing and it was very noticeable. However, during my time in the Writing 39 series, it has influenced me to use the strategies I learned in writing and apply it to other classes. One thing I’ve discovered from being in Writing 39B is how to interpret the author’s purpose.…

I feel that writing is a good subject to be familiar and practicing in frequently, it is a necessary tool to communicate properly. Although, if I were to be truthful I’d have to say that I am not the biggest fan of it due to the fact that it bores me and I have trouble figuring out what to say. So I find it hard to enjoy writing because most of the time I am just struggling to concentrate because I don’t have much more to say about a topic. Recently, since I have not been in school for a while, I have found myself forgetting rules to the English language in my everyday speech so I find it to be useful. This has influenced how I feel about writing because the more I write, the more easily I can remember to use these rules in my daily…

It is possible that if freewriting is read over in a negative light, the writer may no longer wish to continue the activity in the future. Elbow warns the reader of that possibility, stating “if reading over your freewriting or giving it to someone else gets in the way of future freewriting, as it may well do, then it’s better just to throw it away or stash it somewhere unread” (15). Freewriting is intended to guide the writer to bring ideas to mind, but when judged too harshly, they may simply block that concept out of their…

I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. Writing has always been a struggle for me for as long as I can remember. I find it difficult to put my thoughts on a paper, especially if I have to do it in another language.
