Philip Freeman, Ph.d graduated from University of Texas with a degree in Classics concluding his undergraduate years(pg1, freeman). During his final undergraduate years Freeman wanted to teach in college, although, he did not have any prior teaching experience.
Freeman applied to multiple Ph.D programs including Harvard, and was accepted into Harvard that spring(pg1, freeman). While at Harvard he received his Ph.D in classics and Celtic studies, “and has been a visiting scholar at the Harvard Divinity School, the American Academy in Rome, and the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, D.C”(pg1 no author). One skill that is learned in college class work is how to write properly, and that skill is reinforced through writing papers. For college papers it is best to concisely get to your main point wthout breaking any rules with grammar or spelling. The process to write a paper begins and ends with the thesis because the thesis is developed through research, and sets forth the structure for the rest of the paper. Another very important activity in college to get a good grade is studying. In order to study a student must have good notes, and those notes “ need to reflect the differing goals of different courses”(pg73). “The most successfull way to study is done in many short sessions rather than in one long session”(paraphrase pg113). The way a student acts in class plays a role because this is how the professor knows if the student is interested in the subject or wasting time. For example, being distracting in class can make the professor annoyed with the student because he or she is wasting the precious time from other students when the professor has to address that student. Also asking about tests annoys the professor i because the professor believes that anything they teach is important to know whether it is on the test or not. The interaction with the professor is also very important for the final grade because your respect towards the professor is reflected in your grade by the professors leniency. Many professor has preferences on how to be addressed, but the best way to address a professor is by using the term professor because it generic enough to be respectful in all situations. A student 's creditably with the professor is also an interaction variable because the professor to help a student “who has shown earned a high degree of credibility in his eyes than someone who has shown little interest in the course”(pg138).
