Motivation In Freedom Writers

Improved Essays
Introduction.
The film Freedom Writers does a good example of how to motivate and convince others about a social conduct and nice ways of expressing , feeling in community with others and recognizing that an action is wrong. This was done by a teacher, Mrs Gruwell, that started in the school with little knowledge about that. People don't liked how her "wasted" her time in something so supportive to a population of students that really needed it, and in the end, it was an excellent job. But how this can be seen as a way of motivation in real life? Mrs Gruwell did this in the film using various ways. We are going to talk about three important aspects of these ways of motivation in this essay. First: Mrs Gruwell, made her students express their

We can make a link to this in real life, many schools in countries like U.S and some parts of Costa Rica have this problem and it is not remediated anyway , cause of many reasons that teachers ignore, and this results in students continuing in bad conducts like using drugs and be part of gangs. Following this , in the film the students had misunderstood other people (even teachers), mainly due to them structuring a way of thinking based on gang culture. Like saying "all teachers we had were white and these teachers despise us for being black", this was false in a lot of ways and the students seemed to had this form of thinking for a long time. They thought "teachers only come to school to make money and teach us things that don't do anything for our lives", and it was the cause for the disrespect Mrs Gruwell got the first day of classes, because they thought she was the same as the other teachers. In real life, many students of problematic zones do this , and there have been many teachers that students don't respect in schools, resulting in even teachers being threatened by gangs or having juridical problems. So, these were the causes of demotivation and …show more content…
All of these strategies for having a group of persons to change to a more positive way of thinking and behaving, motivating and stop being in gangs, or drugs, can be implemented in real life, because many people need this motivation to follow the way to success (in studies, work, or other situations) but also need to solve problems in their life and changing a behavior to do the successfully and positive change. The way of thinking the students of the class had before and after can't be compared, it is simply much different in a much better way, all thanks to that person, that motivated them to do all that changes, obviously it was a long process and the students in the start refused a little to the change, but at the end they knew what errors they were committing and what things they could change to a positive way. The way of thinking they had also changed a lot, so they were ready to be integral people of the society without being marginated by the others, the study and discipline being the principal facts in these

The most life- changing invention differs from person to person. Some might argue the most life- changing invention is the telephone, while others might argue it is the invention of vehicles. For me, it is the invention of the light bulb. Due to the invention of the light bulb, people have access to light whenever they desire, and they have no need to rely on the sunshine. Needless to say, this invention has changed everybody’s lives and light has became known as a beacon of hope in our society today.…

To me, this implicates that the kids did not receive a proper education and they were not in a welcoming environment. I believe in order for kids to achieve their best in school, they need a respectful and friendly environment. I do not think I can learn in a classroom where I have to constantly look over my shoulder because I do not feel safe. One teacher compared the school to a prison:” We can’t leave school; we can’t come early or on the weekends to do preparatory work. We are like prisoners.…

It is important for teachers, who are white, to be aware of what whiteness is and what that means for their students. Teachers must also be aware of any bias and prejudice that they may have toward their students that are white versus their students that are black. In the documentary, a black student said that he believed that one of the reasons that white teachers sent black students to the office more than white students was because they did not know how to “deal with” them and they did not want to be judged for trying to. A teacher also spoke in the video about how she believes that students react differently to teachers based on their race. Two teachers could say the exact same thing to their students but they would get a different reaction based on if they were white or…

All this time when I was chatting it up with my friends and having a great time being involved and loved by my friends and teachers, there were kids in the class that felt the way I had felt in my Indigenous class. Because I was so focused on making sure myself and my friends were happy, I forgot about making other people feel comfortable. So as a teacher, my goal is to take down the boundaries of isolation to some of those kids. Encouraging cliques and different personalities to merge will not only help students to get involved, but to create an environment where everyone is involved and feels wanted and safe. The goal is not to throw kids who may be quiet into a loud and uncomfortable setting, but to connect with new…

    Cause Of Differences

Many sociologists argue that “factors and processes within school are the main cause of difference” These factors include gender, class and ethnicity. All of these things can lead to certain stereotypes and labels being forced upon pupils. The idea that Teachers have certain expectations of different social and ethnic groups means that self-fulfilling prophecy can lead to pupils living out positive and negative labels. The role of gender in educational achievement is that in past times it has been that boys have achieved less than girls in school, this could be that boys have a history of ‘laddish’ behaviour and have had a negative attitude to learning. This had also led to teachers expectations of ‘lads’ to be low which has caused negative stereotypes and labels.…

The last goal that our elementary and secondary schools could equally and especially focus more on is “Social ethics, both behavioral and abstract, to facilitate compatibly with others in this society.” Students of all ages should be taught these skills because they are imperative to excel in almost any aspect of life. Students are rarely taught in school how to properly shake someone’s hand, how to prepare for a job interview, or how work harmoniously with others. Our education system should require a course dedicated to teaching “social ethics” and “soft…

It shows the students being barked at by their teacher like how they would be barked at by the boss of a factory. These students are not given the opportunity to excel outwardly. They are controlled from a young age and taught how to follow orders, instead of thinking abstractly; in contrast to the executive elite schools. Anyon later makes a quote in her study of the executive elite school, saying “In the classroom, the children could get materials when they needed them and took what they needed from closets and from the teacher’s desk. They were in charge of the office at lunchtime” (Anyon 178).…

Perhaps the single, most common answer to the question of the purpose of school is that it is to shape young minds in preparing them for the future. For some, school is where they go learn skills and techniques useful in the work world. For others, they are just forced to go to school, to be hassled with the burdens of overwhelming assignments, which deprive them of their ever so fulfilling social lives and other salient priorities. However, for the students in Crenshaw High School, school was a sanctuary, a safe haven; the only place where they felt accepted, worthy and optimistic. School was their only outlet where they could openly express themselves, especially in their English classes.…
