People are thinking that freedom of speech should be limited due to hate speech and crimes. But is there really a reason to put legal actions into this?

Hate speech is taking over the nation and people are trying to get rid of it by taking away or limiting freedom of speech. Many people don’t know what to do about it though, By taking away or limiting what others say it's going against our first amendment. In the article " Hate speech and the first amendment debating the 'Mighty' constitutional opposites" (para 2) What this shows is by limited what others say it's taking away their right to say what they want and the listeners right to fight back with their own words. Another quote is "As a society, we seem to have forgotten that free speech is central to our dignity as human beings as well as to intellectual and material progress," ( "Free speech is central to our dignity as humans para 3) In addition to what was said before limiting this freedom would not be a good thing because it is taking away not just the people who create hate crimes and speeches but everybody's. As well as that, many people would be in jail just by saying their opinion even if it is bad. …show more content…
