As of right now the major issue regarding the extent of free speech is hate speech, speech that offends, threatens or insults a group of individual, race, caste, culture etc. People want to put a limitation or restriction to speech regarding hate due to a religious belief, hate for a religious group, hate that rises from different political view which can also stem from religious beliefs. One of the most common examples is that, the protests against gay marriages or abortion that can rise from a religious or personal standpoint is considered a hate speech and the first amendment should prohibit it.
