Freedom Of Speech In The United States

Abraham Lincoln once said “ A house divided against itself cannot stand”. Today America is truly divided on all fronts. We can no longer debate and hear both sides, people abuse their rights and the saddest thing of all people want to limit free speech the very thing so many people have fought and died for. Even with all these problems their is always hope if just one person believes we can change. Today we have many great controversies in our country. One of which is NFL players taking a knee during our national anthem and whether or not they should be allowed to do so. One of the many things our soldiers fight for is freedom to protest, but with this freedom we need to know when and how we should use it. Many Americans do not know this and do not choose to even try to learn better manners in which to protest things they do not like. Many do not disagree with the players, but they disagree with how they are protesting it and to many it's showing disrespect …show more content…
People need to be educated and taught how we can use our freedoms with responsibility. We have freedom of speech, but many people think that means they can say whatever they please. Furthermore, people have stopped listening to each other.
Worst of all today many young people feel we need to limit our freedom of speech. Many colleges across the country, the young people of our future truly think that any “hate speech” should be limited and not heard. The events that occurred at charlottesville are a prime example of people not believing in freedom of speech. We sadly live in a world where people no longer will stand to hear or listen to other people. Public speakers will get shouted off stage, groups can no longer hold rallies even if they have all the necessary permits to do
