Freedom Of Speech In College Essay

Improved Essays
Over years there have been times when freedom of speech would be taken away from people or be said to be more towards hate and bullying. Sometimes people would mistreat the freedom of speech to do what they want and get their way. It has also come to the point where freedom of speech would be only be allowed for some people instead of everyone because some people just don’t agree with someone's thoughts and opinions that sometimes they’ll say it offending them when really it’s nothing be offended with at times. It’s has gotten to the point that at a college campus would longer allow anyone to really speak their mind or share what they just think about something because it might hurt someone's feelings, someone might get angry that that person …show more content…
Other than that, it has really fallen to the people who are losing that freedom. Students shouldn’t have that right taken as everyone does have their own views on the world and about everything else. In the real world, it doesn’t matter if one's feelings get butt hurt over something of another's opinion or statement. That’s not how the world works let alone the human mind as everyone is different with different views, different minds, different thoughts, different believes, and different sides. That’s how it is and going on Youtube or watch shows that show how people will just attack people who have a different view is just sickening. Like a video of a girl taking a Trump hate from a male white students because it offended her that he would dare wear a hat with someone she doesn’t like as she would say that his freedom of speech is wrong as she herself would be drastic towards him as she would mention that because he’s a white male that she doesn’t care for what he had to say or anything. There are tons more that show these things because people are butthurt over something they just don’t agree with. So with that said, they should get rid of freedom of speech, but have a rule about people attacking people or people doing racial slurs such as going up to someone saying they should go back being slaves, go back where they belong to, or calling people a certain name that’s not good and that applies to everyone. Blacks, Asians, natives, Indians, whites, browns, and so on because everyone has a name that people who are racist use one people no matter what color they

Freedom of speech has always been a topic of conversation on whether or not we really have it, or it’s portrayed like we do so the American people can be content. There is plenty of proof on the fact that our freedom of speech is actually being taken away from us. Even now as our generation is more open minded, it doesn’t mean that we allow for anyone to have what they think is right, heard. Then whenever we question that our right is being taken away, we are meant with critiques that we are just babies and Liberal snowflakes that don’t really know what it is to not have freedom of speech. There are cases like with what happened with the San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, which was taking a stand by kneeling during the national anthem as a way to protest against…

In today's society we are often faced with hateful speech. On everyday news and media they point out situations on police brutality and violent riots going because of innocent protest that others found offencive . Children of younger generations have no real understanding of what going on today . If our younger generation is taught how to appropriately taught how to exercise their freedom of speech properly the they can be more prepared for what's ahead. I agree with Lee Rowland points in her article, For starters , she explains her statement based off of an A.C.L.U speech on how we should start educating our younger youth of the futures about hateful speech and what may come along with it.…

I agree with Caleb Yong article on how free speech is important because he explained how lead each person to form the own ideas and opinion and individualize themselves, and although it can lead to hate speeches there is also speeches that benefit for the better. It’s important for people to speak your opinion and ideas without having to have restriction on how important the matter is to you. Every speech has its negative and positive points but it usually the benefits out weigh the negative factor of the speech. I do think that is very important to keep in mind that every action has its…

Colleges always face a lot of scrutiny when it comes to how they are run. In recent years, the First Amendment has come into play on campuses across the nation. Many articles have been written defending both for and against restrictions, defending the use of trigger warnings in class, and explaining what this controversy is really about. While the colleges themselves have the power to choose what they do, they must consider what experience they want to provide for their students. What is Free Speech?…

Adults are expected to continue their work when they are confronted with offensive or difficult situations and push through the difficulties. Every aspect of life is difficult and faced with people who are going to attack you. College should be a place where students learn to counteract hateful words with enlightened, educated speech. We should be promoting healthy coping skills and mental health so students can learn how to deal with hateful and abrasive people, not shield students so they never have to learn the healthy way to deal with offensive situations. Furthermore, I do not believe that speech codes are constitutional.…

Our first amendment is one of our most widely used amendments throughout the US. It includes the freedom of religion, the freedom of the press, the freedom of assembly, and last but not least, the freedom of speech. While we undoubtedly use the freedom of speech the most among the rest of the freedoms in the first amendment, we sometimes go too far using or saying what we want to. There are a lot of restrictions on the first amendment which some people find to be a good thing and some oppose the concept of limiting one of their rights. On college campuses throughout America, many colleges have speech codes.…

Freedom of speech, a basic right and amendment that most students who grow up in the United States come to learn and take pride in having from a young age. Many of us take this right for granted at times, what we do not realize is that there are so many places around the world that are continuously fighting for this innate right. Although we lack the fortitude at times, it is a vital right to all of us in our identities and abilities to grow as people and become who we are and allow ourselves to excel. The idea of speech codes, which can be commonly defined as: “politically correct" codes but are more commonly known as hate speech codes.” The issue of whether or not speech codes on campuses are justified is an immoral issue, which should in…

All people should be given the right to say what they want America was made for Freedom that includes freedom of speech we all have different options but we all have the right to express your selves for our society is part of free speech. For we have the right to make jokes about ISIS for example but because we make jokes that mean nothing to us people from different places may get angry at us and some will even kill us even if we draw someone they just might kill us. Like the cartoonists killed for drawing Mohammed. Colleges are limiting free speech they are basically saying “Oh no you can’t say bad things to students you bad boy/girl now go into the safe room and eat your milk and cookies you can talk about them all the time you are in there.” Comedians have sworn off performing at colleges because they say students can’t take a joke.…

Freedom of speech is a privilege all Americans share. A person can state whatever they please, so long as it doesn’t cause a clear and present danger, without government interference. The idea that someone can legally think, be, and say whatever they want is what lead millions of immigrants to form the U.S. back in 1776 and is the same reason people fight for their right to live here today. Thanks to information being so accessible in this digital age, individuals are told that they are allowed and to study and form an educated opinion. This comes with one catch.…

To me both freedom of speech and academic freedom serve the same purpose and necessity, especially on a college campus. If institutions of higher learning are allowed to infringe on the expressed rights of students, faculty, and staff as a nation it is my belief that we have lost all hope in our government, and in the laws that are implemented to serve and protect us. The Bill of Rights was implemented to protect society, institutions of higher learning were also implemented to protect society, if one disregards the other it will be a systemic failure that we will all…
