In the book Romeo and Juliet the author shows how much more freedom Romeo has compared to Juliet. One way Shakespeare shows this is through the fact that Romeo can choose who he wants to marry while Juliet’s love interest is chosen by her parents. Juliet’s mom states, “By my count, I was your mother much upon these years that you are now a maid. Thus then in brief: The valiant Paris seeks you for his love” (Shakespeare 1.3. 72-75). This shows that Juliet is forced to love a certain person just because her mother wants her to. This also shows that even if Juliet wanted to marry someone else, it would not be excepted in her family.
