Martin Luther King Jr. demonstrated the black Americans injustice when he begins his analogy of a bank. Sweltering summer is contrasted by invigorating autumn to emphasize what king describes to be slavery and freedom. He announces, “this sweltering summer of the Negros legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality.” Sweltering summer refers to the black American and how they were unjustly treated. Just like a sweltering summer, they were left in the middle of the “heat” because of the Americans anger and resentment toward them. The invigorating autumn represents the extraordinary emotions and feeling of being free. Similar to an invigorating autumn, obtaining freedom would be similar to fall because the people would not be pushed by anger and resentment. King then describes where hope can be found. their devastation that have piled up on them to try to get to where they are now. The stone of hope is the opposite of a mountain that helps prove that a small amount of hope can come from anywhere.
